Philip Zahorsky, bass trombone

Philip Zahorsky performed professionally as bass trombonist with Symphony Silicon Valley and Ballet Silicon Valley orchestras. He performed for several years as the first-call extra and substitute bass trombonist with the San Francisco Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, Edo de Waart, Leonard Slatkin and a host of other major conductors. He recorded Resphigi's Pines of Rome with the San Francisco Symphony under Edo de Waart. Phil served as the bass-trombonist with the former San Jose Symphony for 30 years.
In addition to extensive symphonic experience, Phil toured with the Broadway traveling companies of Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorus Line, and Camelot. He performed professionally with the Woodminster, San Francisco Curran and Orpheum Theaters, San Jose American Musical Theater, and many New York visiting touring companies.
Joining the faculty of Ohlone College in 1977, Phil conducted all of the major Summerfest productions at Ohlone, including the Leonard Bernstein's Mass in 2002. He conducted all of the Ohlone bands and jazz ensembles at their inception, and proudly served as the music director and conductor of the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, the region's first professional quality wind orchestra from 1991 to 2001. Professional conducting responsibilities also included appointment as Music Director of the Festival Brass Ensemble with the Music in the Mountains Chamber Orchestra from 1990 through 2002.
