Chinese tenor Lu Yuan was born in 1982 in Shan Dong. In 2001 he began his musical studies in piano and voice at the China Tianjin Conservatory of Music; in 2008 he obtained his Master of Music and then joined the voice faculty of the same prestigious Conservatory. In China, he participated in various concerts of both operatic and song literature and several operatic performances including Puccini’s La Boheme and Verdi’s La Traviata. In 2011 he was sent by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a ‘Senior Visiting Scholar’ to study in Italy where he has since been a participant of CUBEC as a student of Mirella Freni. During the same year, he performed the role of Belfiore in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims under the baton of Maestro Alberto Zedda at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and as a soloist in concerts honoring the memory of tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Giuseppe Di Stefano. In 2012 he sang the role of the Prince in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at both the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts and the Teatro Nacional de San Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal. He also performed as the leading tenor in L'Italiana in Algeri in Valencia, Spain. In 2013 he will sing the leading tenor in Le Comte Ory at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Mr. Yuan has won prestigious prizes in various international vocal competitions like China's Golden Bell Awards, the Bellini International Singing Competition, the Neue Stimmen Competition in Germany, the Opera Performance Competition of Chinese Arts, Caserta International Singing Competition, the Magda Olivero Competition, and the Benvenuto Franci Competition with Opera Pienza.
