Janet Sims, viola
Janet Sims is the Assistant Principal violist of the Symphony Silicon Valley and Ballet San Jose Orchestras and a founding member of the San Jose String Quartet. She also performs as the Principal Viola with the Midsummer Mozart and Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestras, and has been a guest soloist and Principal Violist with the Desert Foothills Music Fest since its premier season.
Ms. Sims is an active chamber musician in the Bay area, appearing on the series of Music at Kohl Mansion, Performances at Six, Composers' Inc., Trinity Chamber Series and San Jose Chamber Music Society. She appears regularly as a featured soloist at the Music in the Mountains Summer Festival as well as with Sinfonia San Francisco.
As a member of the San Jose String Quartet she has extensive experience in educational programs and has performed throughout the Santa Clara Valley in a variety of educational settings. These venues include the San Jose Museum of Art for "Kids' Art Sundays" and the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum. Ms. Sims performs regularly with Young Audiences of the Bay Area as part the San Jose String Quartet and as a solo performer.
Ms. Sims is on the faculty of the Santa Clara University Department of Music and teaches viola privately a large number of junior high and high school age musicians. She regularly coaches the viola sections of the California Youth Symphony and the San Jose Youth Orchestra.
Ms. Sims is a graduate of Stanford University.
