Bitten by the stage bug at age 3, as she sang The Apple Doesn't Fall Very Far From the Tree with her mom & grandma in a revue to raise funds for a local school, Katherine Cooper has performed steadily ever since… in vocal competitions, choir & dance concerts, synchronized swimming and lots of musical theatre.
Throughout middle and high schools, Kate steadily won her favored roles in school plays and musicals and was often a featured soloist in concerts and competitions. In high school, Kate studied vocal jazz and music theory with acclaimed composer and arranger Kerry Marsh. She was deeply involved in student government, where she wrote, cast, produced and performed as M.C. and various characters in monthly pep rallies.
Kate is an accomplished synchronized swimmer. She spent 15 years with Northern California recreational and regional masters teams. Kate's time in the pool culminated in her competition in the 2006 FINA world masters championship meet at Stanford University, where her team took 14th place overall and her duet took 7th place in its category.
In 2005, Kate embarked on her journey as a Schwab-Rosenhouse scholar at Saint Mary’s College of California, where she broadened her dance horizons studying modern and choreographic technique & theory, performed the National Anthem on national ESPN broadcasts as the premiere vocalist for Gael Athletics, accepted award nominations for her performances in musicals on & off campus, and earned a bachelor’s degree in the integral liberal arts (a great books program rooted in classics).
Since her time at Saint Mary's, Kate has been proud to act as a guest host on Capital Ppublic Radio, represent the Broadway bound musical, Allegiance on the west coast (with a performance alongside composer, L. Jay Kuo at TEDx Stanford), and join Grammy winners Los Lobos on stage as a guest vocalist in Northern California. This year she will also begin a foray into recording at Tanglewood Studio.
Raised in the Catholic Church (and with so many years of Catholic school under her belt) Kate often acts as a liturgical music consultant and vocalist for the rites of marriage & burial. With her EMC card in her pocket, Kate continues to hone her craft, performing in Northern California’s regional theatres, and working with area filmmakers -- always keeping an eye out for special shows & projects dear to her heart.
