Biography

Mallory Thompson, conductor

Mallory Thompson is Professor of Music, Coordinator of the Conductin Program, and Director of Bands at Northwestern University. As the third person in the University's history to hold this position, she conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting, and has conducted opera and musical theatre. Prior to this appointment, Professor Thompson held similar positions at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, and the University of South Florida. She has released recordings with the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the University of Cincinnati Wind Symphony.

Mallory Thompson was recently named Artistic Director of the Northshore Concert Band after serving as Principal Guest Conductor since 1998. Professor Thompson also maintains an active schedule as guest conductor and lecturer throughout the United States and Canada. She has appeared frequently as a conductor at national and regional music conventions, the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Aspen Music Festival, and has conducted the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own", the Naval Academy Band, and the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band. Her professional affiliations include Pi Kappa Lambda, the Music Educators National Conference, the College Band Directors National Association, and the American Bandmasters Association.
