Each year, Symphony offers educational concerts especially designed for 4th, 5th and 6th graders, booked by classroom through the students' schools.  All concerts are held at the California Theatre in San Jose and are offered at no charge to the students or the schools.

Each concert is presented by the full Symphony orchestra led by Maestro Peter Jaffe, Music Director of the Stockton Symphony, using excerpts from classical and popular music to introduce musical concepts and the sounds and instruments of the orchestra.

In 2008-09, teachers wrote us,

"Students were beyond excited leaving the Symphony. Many students now
want to continue with band in middle school
,"
and
"How did it go? They LOVED it! Just walking into the theater a few girls turned
to me and said that they felt like princesses, and walking out we were all
stomping the rhythms
."

2009-10 Program:
"Construction Zone: Musicians at Work!"

How do  composers build a piece of music for an orchestra? What kinds of framework do they use? Join conductor Peter Jaffe and Symphony Silicon Valley on a trip into the “Construction Zone” and find out! Your students will learn how to listen to music in a new and fun way as they are taught about musical forms and patterns, and then hear the Symphony bring them to life. Maestro Jaffe makes learning entertaining and interactive, and hearing  the entire orchestra play the music – from J.S. Bach’s Little Fugue to  John Williams’ Harry Potter – makes the entire event unforgettable!

Double the value of your field trip day.  Immediately ollowing each Symphony Silicon Valley concert, students can visit The Tech Museum (just two blocks from the California Theatre) to reinforce their concert experience by exploring connections between science, music and math. Museum staff will help students with special hands-on activities and students will search the galleries for musical clues that will lead them through the exhibitions.  If you wish, you may take time for lunch at either the Museum or the nearby park.
